How Long Will Covid Last? An Opinion By Shaun Stenning

According to Shaun Stenning, If you reside in Thailand and have tourism or hospitality businesses that survive from international tourism, you most probably spend a large portion of the day pondering how long international airports will remain closed and how long before traveler confidence returns.

"While we may ponder this thought regularly, the news cycle also ponders it  In the last few days I have seen no less than 13 different news articles talking about the arrival of international visitors into Phuket." Shaun Stenning said

For those of you who do not read the news cycle or are not located in Phuket, it was announced at the end of September that on 8th October we would have 120 international visitors arrive and test the procedures of Phuket as it relates to testing and quarantine.

In the last few days, there has been a raft of announcements.  They have been confusing and conflicting but it appears that due to "local objections" that this arrival date has moved to after the 25th October.

Shaun Stenning, being someone who is active in the local community is a little confused as to what objections have been raised but nevertheless, another delay is in process.

The reality is, as Shaun believes, that real international tourism numbers won't return to Phuket until the 3rd quarter of 2021 and for now we just have to manage ourselves and our businesses on the Domestic Market.

While the Domestic Market is not enough to sustain the entire tourism ecosystem in Phuket for businesses that are agile and fast-moving they can adjust and adapt themselves to survive.

This is not a time to thrive, it is a time to survive

So back to the original question, when will Phuket re-open?

Who knows? Our crystal ball tells us not in the near future.
